When my bathroom was re-done this spring I loved it. Loved it. Except that I was showerless for about 3 weeks and had to go to the gym to use theirs every day (helped get me there to work out though, so probably not a bad thing) of course. But it was gorgeous, and now I show it off to anyone who comes even near my house, including models that come to shoot in the home studio. When Bry Jensen saw it she had the same idea I did, throw a model in it, turn on the water and make some pictures. Here’s what we came up with in a cool evening of shooting. Enjoy!
In case you’re wondering, no modifications were made to those abs. Bry is a fitness model and in amazing shape and needs no help from photoshop to look that good!
If you’re a photographer and wondering about the setup and lighting, that’ll come in a later post with a quick behind the scenes shot or two. Essentially though it’s two point lighting, the main light being either an umbrella or beauty dish camera right, and then two rim lights behind left and right, one bungee corded to the shower head camera right and one on a lightstand poking over the top of the shower (gobo’d with a very sexy spaghetti box to keep spill off of the tiles) camera left. All three triggered with little radio triggers and the rim lights around 1/32 or 1/64th power with the main light being about 1/8th or thereabouts.
The trickiest part was dealing with the enclosed space. I love my DA*50-135/2.8 but i these tight spaces that’d only give me a shot of the model’s eyebrow, so I was shooting with my DA16-45/4 most of the time, trying to compensate for the wider angle as best I could by keeing the backgrounds level and keeping it as close to the 45mm mark as I could. For post processing most of the shots just have a tweak or two of the levels and curves, and a bit of punch in clarit to get the details out. I also did my best to remove some distracting background elements such as the shower head, faucet, and when i could the alcove in the wall for shampoo and soap and whatnot. Sadly a photoshop genius is not what I am so these aren’t all gone by any means. Photoshop geniuses who want to help out, please feel free to email me though!
