Last weekend was another great show at the Red Room Ultra, in Downtown Vancouver. The original ticket of acts dropped down a couple unfortunately, due to unfortunate (but unavoidable) circumstances, but the remaining groups really gave their all.
The biggest challenge here for me personally was the lighting. To the naked eye, it looked pretty good, but the bright blue and red alternating spotlights played havoc with a camera. Your camera sees in red, green and blue channels, and when one is really bright, you get in a whole mess of lighting problems (especially red, which is harder to tame than the others). So in this case I had to drastically underexpose the images to get the red channel under control, as I tweeted about here:
The lighting in the club makes me want to cry. Wonder if the lighting guy can turn down the red? pic.twitter.com/afzafzXR11

Luckily my love new Pentax K-3 managed to handle it well, and while the images looked pretty sad in the JPG preview on the back of the camera, when pulled into Lightroom they worked nicely, and I could adjust the white balance to make some fairly usable images.
After the show there was a DJ show. I missed the end of it (staying in downtown Vancouver till 3am is not something I was into that night), but what I saw was pretty impressive. Also the main guy was my buddy KayCee, who kept everyone entertained while the acts weren’t on stage.
