Last night myself, my wife, and two of our good friends Brian and Aldo went out to the VanDusen Botanical Gardens to see their yearly Festival of Lights. I’d never been before, and I have to say the scope of it all was pretty over the top. There wasn’t that much rhyme or reason to it all, it’s more like someone was given a million christmas lights and told “go nuts”. There was a musical component at the main area, where every half hour or so the lights would go off along with christmas music.
The rest of the park was similarly spectacular. People wandered around, and really everywhere you turned there was something to see, sometimes a bit hidden, sometimes just an angel sculpture in a field of lights, a Christmas tree, or a weird wicker thingy.
Here are a few of the other pictures from the day. If you’re interested in going, definitely do, it ends January 4. Also make sure you go early, unlike I did. The park closes at 9 and you need way more time than a couple of hours to go through, especially if you’ve got a camera and a (needed) tripod. I’d say arriving a bit after 4-5pm or so will give you time to scope the place out, get a bite, and start wandering as after it gets dark.
